Welcome

The Fishel Laboratory is located on the 10th floor (south) of the Biological Research Tower (BRT) in room 1040.  Research is focused on DNA repair and its connection to clinical problems such as infertility and cancer development.  We are largely focused on understanding the mechanisms and genetic interactions of Mismatch Repair (MMR) and Recombination Repair .  Our early work demonstrated the connection of human MMR to the most common cancer susceptibility known as Lynch syndrome or hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (LS/HNPCC).  More recent biophysical studies utilize single molecule imaging technologies that allow the real-time visualization of the dynamic processes associated with protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions.  Genetic studies utilize CRISPR-based targeting of fluorophores for live cell single molecule imaging of DNA repair processes as well as the development of pre-clinical mouse models to study chemoprevention for LS/HNPCC patients .

Highly motivated undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows interested in research projects within the laboratory are encouraged to apply for open positions .
